Surf Hiriketiya
Waves you can hear from bed, a two-minute walk down.
A surf-friendly boutique hotel on the point above Hiriketiya Bay, on Sri Lanka’s south coast.
Surf Hiriketiya
The break sits right below the hotel.
Hiriketiya is a small horseshoe bay on Sri Lanka’s south coast. The centre and western side is a softer sand-bottom break with smaller peaks, good for finding your feet, while the eastern side is a consistent left-hand point and reef break for those who want more size.
You can hear the waves from bed and see the bay through the coconut palms, so it’s easy to read the tide and pick your session. When you’re ready, it’s a two-minute walk down with your board.

Jasper House is surf on your own schedule. If you’d rather a structured, coached camp, oursister property Talalla Retreat runs surf and surf-and-yoga camps just up the coast, for all levels.

Not hired in-house, but there are plenty of options on Hiriketiya beach, a short walk away.
When to surf in Hiriketiya
Targets “sri lanka surf season” (KD 0).
Hiriketiya is surfable for much of the year, but the main Sri Lanka surf season on the south coast runs roughly November to April, when conditions are cleanest and most consistent. The shoulder months still have plenty of days worth paddling out. Check the Matara surf report.
Day trips to other breaks
Hiriketiya makes an easy base for the south coast. Kadolana Beach is about a 10-minute drive and SK Town around 30 minutes, and
a guide can plan the day around the tide.
Not a surf camp
If you’ve looked at a Sri Lanka surf camp and wanted the surf without the timetable,
that’s the idea here. You surf when the tide is right, not when a schedule says so.
Where you will stay
Twelve open-air rooms, two minutes from the break.
Rooms
Open-air or air-conditioned, from a shower under the stars to a door onto the pool. See the rooms.
For a longer, quieter surf-and-wellness stay, our sister property Talalla Retreat is just up the coast.
